Discount codes

Percentage-off promo codes for early birds, partner gyms, and sponsors — scoped to one division or qualifier, time-limited, optionally capped, and redeemed by athletes during checkout.

What a discount is

A discount is a code plus a percentage off the base price, attached to exactly one division or one qualifier. "EARLYBIRD, 25% off RX Men" is one discount; covering RX Women too means a second discount, which can reuse the same code.

  • Active window — a start and end date-time. Outside the window the code simply stops working; nothing to clean up.
  • Usage cap — an optional maximum number of redemptions ("first 20 teams"). Leave it blank for unlimited. Capped codes are safe under load: two teams racing for the last slot can't both get it.
  • Case-insensitive codes — codes are stored uppercase and matched however the athlete types them. The form's Generate button produces an 8-character code with no ambiguous characters.

There are no automatic, code-less discounts: the price on the public page is always the base price, and only athletes holding a code pay less.

Create and track

Discounts live in the Registrations section's Discounts tab. The list shows each code with its target, percentage, active period with a status badge (upcoming, active, expired), and redemptions against the cap.

The Discounts tab: a table of codes with target division, percentage off, active period with expired and active badges, usage counts against the cap, and edit/delete actions.
An expired early-bird next to an active capped code — expiry needs no cleanup.

Code, dates, percentage, and cap stay editable. The target division or qualifier is locked after creation — to move a discount, delete it and create a new one on the right target. That protects teams who already registered with the old code.

How athletes redeem

The code field isn't on the public competition page — it appears at the payment step of registration, behind a "Have a discount code?" link. On a valid code the summary shows the original price struck through with the percentage badge; the athlete can also remove it again. A wrong, expired, or exhausted code gets one generic "invalid code" message — deliberately vague, so nobody can probe which codes exist.

A 100% discount is allowed and drops the registration into the free-confirmation flow — no card, no Stripe. That's the closest thing to a guest-list entry besides invitations.

What it does to the money

The percentage applies to the base price, rounded up to the cent, and everything downstream is recomputed from that discounted price — platform fee, Stripe processing fee, VAT. A 25% code on a €100 division means the athlete pays fees on €75, exactly as if the division had been priced at €75. How those fees compose is covered in Pricing and fees .

Each registration records which code it used, so the list's usage counts double as a quick revenue-impact check: redemptions × base price × percentage is what the campaign cost you.
